NAVA's Best Practices for Authentic Casting

The Importance of Authentic Casting for Voice Actors

Please visit our Best Practices for Authentic Casting Page. It was written as a collaboration between NAVA board members who serve on the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Committee, as well as leaders from Voices of Color (VOC), QueerVox, Veterans, and The Disabled Voice Actors Database (DVAD).

At NAVA, we believe that advancement of the voice acting industry requires raising awareness and intentional support of the diverse voices of all performers. We support the following groups and their efforts to increase authentic storytelling in the performance arts.

VOICES OF COLOR AND THE PGM LIST

THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN VOICE ACTOR DATABASE Established in 2019, the African-American Voice Actor Database is a platform to showcase talented, professional, and authentic African-American voice actors. It is our goal to facilitate connections between amazing talents and agents/voice-seekers. The AAVDB is funded entirely by donations.

THE DISABLED VOICE ACTORS DATABASE

The Disabled Voice Actors
Database
is a volunteer member-run directory that contains the names and contact information of working voice actors who also happen to be people with disabilities.

If you are working on a project and looking for an actor who can authentically portray a character with a specific disability or condition, you can search the database to identify appropriate voice actors and talents for your project. It is free for actors to be listed, and free for casting professionals, producers, directors, and representatives to access. Contact the team at
disabledvoiceactors@gmail.com
for more information.

VOICES OF COLOR (VOC)
Voices of Color and the PGM VO List: A VOC resource, were created to present a large-scale showcase of global majority (AKA BIPOC/POC) voices that is both representative and accessible to support increasing efforts for inclusion in the VO space. Voices of Color is a community, a place of safety, and a foundation to which education, opportunities, and social awareness can take place. That is where the true purpose of this community and list lies and where the real work beginsA
